Barranca is Indy's Guide in Raiders of the Lost Ark and he nearly helped Indy in that movie but betrayed him by attempting to shoot him. He was outsmarted by Indy and ran off into the jungle where he led René Emile Belloq and the Hovitos to the temple where he was killed by the Hovitos.

Barranca is featured in Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures as an Unlockable Character. In this version, Barranca did not die as in the film. Instead, he gets scared away by bats before the level begins. He can be bought as a playable character in Free Play Mode for 18,000 studs after completing The Lost Temple, the first level of the game. He is playable in portable versions of Lego Indy 2, and his body is similar to that of Satipo.
